YELLOWSTONE ANNUAL CONFERENCE UMCHoward G. Guetherman United Methodist Men’s President406-866-0658 What is the “United Methodist Men” ? First of all the, General Commission on United Methodist Men (GCUMM) is not a program within the United Methodist Church, but an agency that offers spiritual growth processes. We are not an institution, but a ministry where all men and boys can connect to build a relationship with Christ and each other.
The mission of the United Methodist Men (UMMen), through the GCUMM, is to assist all men to know Jesus Christ, to serve Him, to grow spiritually and seek daily to do his will. Our primary purpose is to declare the centrality of Christ in the lives of all men and in their relationships. The major concerns are: To encourage knowledge of and support for the total mission of The United Methodist Church; To engage in evangelism by sharing the fullness of the gospel in its personal and social dimensions; To clarify and speak to the identity and role of the man in contemporary society; To seek commitment to discipleship; To study and become familiar with The united Methodist Church, its organization, doctrines, and beliefs; To cooperate with all units of the United Methodist men in obtaining these objectives through district, conference, jurisdiction, and church-wide goals. We strongly feel that all men should engage daily in Bible study and prayer. Bear witness to Christ’s way in daily work and in all personal contacts through words and actions. To put it simply; we are about helping all men to grow in Christ that others may know Christ. We want all men to be Disciples of Christ. Imagine yourself being very thirsty and then how you felt after quenching that thirst. As Jesus says to the woman at the well in John 4:13 “those who drink from the water that I give them will no longer be thirsty”, the UMMen is ready and willing to assist all men with resources needed to study the word and ways to show their life in Christ. The fellowship and knowledge you can attain from being around a group of guys is priceless. The UMMen provides that opportunity. Your Yellowstone Conference Officers as well as the national office in Nashville, TN. can provide you information about getting those resources needed to help your men gather as a group of guys who are seeking to know Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. A Conference UMMen Officer is willing to visit your church to speak about the advantages of a men’s fellowship. We are also prepared to present to your group, for free, an outline of possible study materials. Some of these materials are intergenerational, and some are specific to dads, husbands, and sons. Some are exclusively Bible Studies, while some are general topics with discussion questions that encourage dialog. You may contact me personally, through the Contacts link on our web page, and I will be more than happy to help you set up some type of Men’s Ministry Fellowship for you and your church if you so desire.
