CHARTERING / EMS United Methodist Men It is important to charter a local unit of UMMen for the following reasons. Most important is that the men of your unit become a link in the international movement of men extending the Kingdom of God. The cost of the Charter, $85.00 / year supports missions in a way one local unit alone couldn’t. These missions include: The Upper Room Living Prayer Center, an 800 national number that receives some 36,000 calls per month, and is answered by a network of over 1,000 people in more than 300 covenant prayer groups around the world. Another reason to charter is that the monies help support Civic Youth Serving Agencies, which include, Boy & Girl Scouting of the USA, 4 – H, Camp Fire USA, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and an exciting Men in Missions emphasis. Your donation for your Charter provides training for local and national officers and programs designed for men. Chartering is a base from which to reach out in mission through the effort of thousands of men’s groups. EMS is your annual individual investment of $30.00 to men’s ministries. EMS stands for Every man shares in evangelism, missions and spiritual life. This donation also supports ministries in your Yellowstone Annual Conference, the Western Jurisdiction of the United Methodist Church and national ministries, such as the Society of St. Andrew. The Society of St. Andrew (SoSA) annually leads 9,000 volunteers into farmers’ fields to glean more than 3.7 million pounds of food per year for America’s hungry. Another part of SoSA is the Meals for Millions (MfM). Through the MfM contributions, men have provided another 5.7 million pounds of fresh produce. The salvaged food resulted in 28.2 million servings of food for the hungry. Another ministry supported by EMS is a partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, which matches United Methodist Men with youth whose parents are incarcerated. This is currently being done in 5,000 communities around this country. I’m not sure that this is being done in the Yellowstone Conference at this time. As an EMS contributor, you will receive the quarterly UMMen magazine and discounts on men’s events and materials. Upon receipt of your contribution each year, national headquarters will send you, as a way of saying thank you, a small gift. Since the birth of the UMM agency, the Commission of United Methodist Men has striven to become financially self-sufficient in its ministries within the United States. The support of local men’s fellowship units by signing up for EMS and Chartering will enable us to achieve this goal.
